Sts. Sergius & Herman will become a monastery

On Thursday, June 1, 2017, following a thanksgiving moleben in the parish church, the founding members of the Sts. Sergius & Herman Mission in Houghton, Michigan, officially gave over the deed of the parish property to the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America for the purpose of establishing a men's monastery.

His Eminence, Archbishop Peter of Chicago & Mid-America received the deed, and thanked the founders for their diligent work for the good of the Holy Church. His Eminence informed the gathered parishioners and monastics that he would be petitioning the Synod of Bishops at the upcoming Council of Bishops in Munich, Germany, to officially establish the monastic community.

Presently there is a Hieromonk and two novices in the nascent monastic community. One of the novices will be tonsured a Riasophore Monk during one of the upcoming lenten periods. The present monastic community conducts the daily cycle of services including Divine Liturgy.

It is hoped that with the official designation of monastery that pilgrimages and commemorations of the living and departed will increase.  [...]
