Tonsure of two brethren: 2019.

In October 2012 His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland with the blessing of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) established a monastic brotherhood of St. John the Ladder located at SS Sergius & Herman Valaam in Atlantic Mine, Michigan.

The primary focus of a monastic brotherhood is on prayer and obedience. This will mainly be achieved through regular daily services and assigned and necessary work in and around the monastic community.

We are using the existing rectory attached to the house as our living quarters. By God grace interested men that are searching and inquiring a possible monastic vocation will visit us and after some time of discernement and mutual agreement will become part of the brotherhood as a novice.

If you want to visit us please contact us at . We are looking forward to see you.

At this time, we are incredibly small, so if you plan on visiting, please be sure to contact us in advance. We do not have a guesthouse currently, but we can possibly house men in one of the few extra bedrooms we have.

The beginning of a monastic brotherhood is especially blessed with hard work and tribulations. While the goal is that the brotherhood will be able to sustain itself by suitable obediences, it is necessary especially in the early stages to rely on outside help. If you are able to help us with your gracious donation please do so by sending it to 17745 Erickson Dr, Atlantic Mine, MI 49905. Mark on your check "Brotherhood" so that the check can be directed in the established fund.
